Privacy

Your home stays on this iPhone or iPad and in your own iCloud. We can’t see it.

What the app keeps

Your rooms and chores, your own resets, your notes and reminders, the names you type, what you tick and your settings are kept on this iPhone or iPad, inside the app. So is the version of the app that last asked you for a rating, so it asks at most once a version, whether it has asked after the how-to stories, so it asks after them only once, and which stories you have watched.

No account with us, no server of ours

There is nothing of ours to sign in to. The app has no server of its own, and we cannot see your home or its copy in iCloud. If you share it, the one thing we can see is the invite’s small record, listed under Sharing your home. The app has no ads, no tracking and no usage or crash reports.

Copy in iCloud

Unless you turn it off in Settings, a copy of your home is saved in your own iCloud a few seconds after each change, so a new iPhone or iPad can bring it back. It is free and needs no account with us.

The copy holds your rooms and chores, your own resets, your notes and reminders, the people in your home (their names, stars, rewards and time away), what was ticked, your name, Cubby’s look and trips, how many things a day you chose, and whether Cubby talks, plays sounds and buzzes. Your reminder time, Plus and how your home is shared are not in it.

It sits in the private part of iCloud, on Apple’s servers under your Apple Account. Only your Apple Account can read it. We cannot see it, not even in Apple’s CloudKit console.

It is saved when your home is shared too: each person’s copy goes to their own iCloud. A home brought back from it is a home of its own on that iPhone or iPad; to be in the shared home again, join it with an invite.

Turn it off and the copy is deleted from iCloud. With iCloud signed out, nothing is saved.

Sharing your home

Nobody else sees your home unless you share it.

When you share, its rooms and chores, its resets, its notes and reminders (those marked just for you too, though only you see them in the app), the people in it (their names, stars, rewards and time away) and what gets ticked are kept in your iCloud: Apple’s servers, under your Apple Account. We cannot see them.

The people you invite see them and can change them. Anyone who has the invite link or code can join.

Your settings, Cubby’s look and his trips stay on this iPhone or iPad.

So that a code can find your home, the invite has a small record in a public part of iCloud: the home’s name, the inviter’s name, how many people and rooms it has, and its link.

Anyone with the code can read that record. It is the only part of a shared home we can see, as the app’s developer, in Apple’s CloudKit console.

Stop sharing and the invite and the shared copy are taken out of iCloud. People who joined keep a copy on their own devices.

Voice add

When you tap the mic, your words are turned into chores on this iPhone or iPad. The sound is not kept and is not sent anywhere. Apple’s permission box says speech may be sent to Apple: this app only ever asks for your words to be worked out on the iPhone or iPad, and where that can’t be done, voice add stays off.

Reminders

Reminders are set on this iPhone or iPad by the app itself. If you share your home, iCloud also sends the app a silent signal when someone changes something, so it can catch up; it shows nothing on screen.

Widgets and the Lock Screen timer

The widgets are handed today’s list (chore names, minutes and rooms) and Cubby’s look. The Lock Screen timer is handed the chore and step you are on. Both stay on this iPhone or iPad.

Plus

Plus is bought through Apple, with your Apple Account. Apple handles the payment and tells the app only whether you have Plus. Asking the App Store for the prices and for that answer is the only thing the app itself goes online for, besides the copy in iCloud and a shared home.

Links that leave the app

Terms, Rate the app and Manage subscription open Safari or the App Store. Help & feedback opens your own mail app with our address. Nothing is sent unless you send it; then we receive your message and the address it came from.

Backups

If your iPhone or iPad backs up to iCloud or to a computer, your home may be part of that backup, like other apps’ data. That is apart from the app’s own copy in iCloud, above.

Erasing it

Settings, then Start over, erases your rooms, chores, family and history from this iPhone or iPad, clears the reminders and empties the widget. If your home is shared, it stops sharing it first, or leaves the home you joined. The copy in iCloud stays until a new home takes its place; to delete it, turn Copy in iCloud off first. Plus stays with your Apple Account. Deleting the app removes everything it kept on this iPhone or iPad, but not the copy in iCloud: turn it off before deleting the app, or delete it in the iPhone or iPad’s Settings, under your name, iCloud, iCloud storage.
